GOES-8 satellite sees NYC terrorist
attack on 11 September 2001
The 1km visible image taken at 12:45 pm EDT has been enhanced to show
the debris field of the collapse of the World Trade Center
towers (arrow 1). The smoke plume (arrow 2) advected
south along the coast of NJ. The smoke plume spread to over 90
miles long and remain visible until sunset.
